Dr. Axel lives in Nassau county with her husband and 2 sons.
Dr. Axel is a licensed Psychologist in the State of NY. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology from Emory University and went on to receive her Ph.D. in Clinical Neuropsychology from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. Dr. Axel completed a year-long APA approved internship in Clinical Neuropsychology from the LIJ-Zucker Hillside Hospital, part of the North Shore-LIJ Health Care system. Dr. Axel completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Forensic Psychology at Westchester Jewish Community Services. Dr. Axel has experience in the evaluation and diagnosis of disorders across the lifespan including Learning Disabilities, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Executive Functioning deficits, intellectual disabililties, language, and communication disorders. Dr. Axel can also help by evaluating and helping to guide treatment and school options for the cognitive deficits associated with various medical conditions like Epilepsy, Brain Tumors, Traumatic Brain Injury, Mood Disorders and other neurological and psychiatric conditions.
Dr. Axel currently has appointments as an Adjunct Professor at Adelphi University and CUNY Queens College, teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate level. She is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA), APA Division 40 (Clinical Neuropsychology), The International Neuropsychologial Society, National Academy of Neuropsychology, CHADD, Long Island Professionals ADHD Consortium, New York State Association of Neuropsychology, and the New York Neuropsychology Group.
